The Dôme de Paris is easily identified by its geodesic roof composed of eleven hundred aluminum panels, a structure that allowed it to become the largest free-standing light-alloy dome in the world when it opened in nineteen sixty. Architect Pierre Dufau designed this arena using engineering techniques from Buckminster Fuller to create a vast, flexible space at the Porte de Versailles.
