Grenelle Cemetery

The Grenelle Cemetery is a flat, rectangular patch of quiet located on Rue Saint-Charles. A network of cross-shaped paths divides the grounds, shaded by a canopy of old chestnut trees. The site preserves a slice of local history from the era when Grenelle functioned as an independent village, distinct from the surrounding city. Residents established these grounds in eighteen thirty-five on a plot of land formerly known as Les Belles-Noix, because they required a dedicated place for local burials rather than relying on the cemetery of Vaugirard.
