Passerelle Debilly

The Passerelle Debilly is a slender, iron-arched footbridge spanning the Seine with a distinct, wave-patterned trim of dark green ceramic tiles along its masonry piers. Built as a temporary gateway for the nineteen hundred Exposition Universelle, the bridge was designed by Jean Résal to connect the exhibition’s Army and Navy halls on the Left Bank with the displays on the Right Bank. Though intended to be dismantled after the fair, it was moved slightly upstream to its current position near the rue de la Manutention and became a permanent fixture of the city.
