Lily Laskine, born in Paris in eighteen ninety-three, spent her life redefining the possibilities of her instrument. In nineteen oh nine, at just sixteen years old, she became the first woman ever hired by the Paris Opéra orchestra. Her career stretched across eight decades, during which she collaborated with composers and performers ranging from flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal to popular singers like Edith Piaf.
