The International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts occupied a sprawling fifty-seven-acre site in central Paris in nineteen twenty-five. Stretching from the Esplanade des Invalides across the Pont Alexandre III to the Grand Palais and Petit Palais, the fairground introduced millions of visitors to a bold, geometric aesthetic that would eventually take its name from the event: Art Deco.
