The Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild is a sprawling nineteenth-century mansion distinguished by its grand, Neoclassical proportions and a quiet garden that sits just steps from the busy Champs-Élysées. Built between eighteen seventy-two and eighteen seventy-eight for Adèle von Rothschild, the residence occupies land once belonging to the eighteenth-century estate known as the Folie Beaujon. Adèle, a widow who withdrew from high society after her husband’s early death, filled these rooms with her extensive art collection before bequeathing the estate to the French state.
