La Mère Catherine sits on the Place du Tertre, identified by its bright red façade and the outdoor terrace that spills onto the cobblestones. Founded in seventeen ninety-three, the building originally served as the presbytery for the nearby church of Saint-Pierre de Montmartre. Since those early years of the French Revolution, the site has claimed a place in local lore as a meeting spot for figures like Georges Danton and, later, the artist Maurice Utrillo.
