The Grand Lodge of France

The Grand Lodge of France occupies a building at eight rue Puteaux that still bears the stone letters S-A-P on its exterior, a remnant of its original dedication to Saint Anthony of Padua. Before the masons arrived, these walls belonged to a Franciscan monastery completed in the eighteen-nineties. After the friars left in nineteen-oh-six, the structure underwent a series of unlikely transitions, serving briefly as a cabaret, a cinema named Féeric, and even a skating rink in the crypt beneath the former chapel.
