The Jardins des Champs-Élysées occupy over thirteen hectares of green space, easily identified by their arrangement into distinct squares of lawn and shaded paths on both sides of the bustling avenue. Originally designed in sixteen sixty-seven by the royal landscape architect André Le Nôtre, the area was created as a westward extension of the Tuileries garden, forming the beginning of the city's historic axis.
