The Frankfurt Main Train Station, or Hauptbahnhof, is a long sandstone palace that stretches two hundred seventy meters across the city. Above its central entrance, a bronze sculpture of Atlas strains to support the world, flanked by figures representing steam and electricity. Behind this Renaissance Revival facade, five massive arched halls of iron and glass extend over the tracks.
