Museum of Applied Arts

The Museum Angewandte Kunst appears as a series of bright, white, L-shaped cubes that wrap around a historic villa. Designed by American architect Richard Meier and opened in nineteen eighty-five, the structure integrates the neoclassicist Villa Metzler, which dates back to eighteen hundred and four. The new building’s grid and dimensions are based on the proportions of this original villa, creating a deliberate dialogue between modernism and history.
