Gate d'Amboise

The Gate d’Amboise is defined by two massive, rounded towers that flank a triple defensive belt, creating a formidable passage into the northwestern corner of the medieval city. Commissioned by Grand Master Emery d’Amboise and completed in fifteen twelve, the structure represents the final military efforts of the Knights Hospitaller to secure their western perimeter. Above the arched entrance, a stone relief depicts an angel holding the coats of arms of the Order and the d’Amboise family, alongside the inscription bearing the date of its construction.
