Suleymaniye Mosque

The Suleymaniye Mosque is identifiable by its distinctive rose-pink plaster and the prominent minaret that rises above the surrounding buildings of the old town. Built shortly after the Ottoman conquest of fifteen twenty-two, it was the first mosque established in Rhodes and was named to commemorate Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. The structure stands on the foundations of a previous Christian church, reflecting a pattern of reuse seen across the medieval city.
