Government Museum

The Government Museum is distinguished by its vibrant, red-painted exterior and neoclassical architecture, featuring prominent Corinthian columns and circular arches. Established in eighteen sixty-five, it ranks among the oldest museums in India. The institution originated through the counsel of Surgeon Edward Balfour, who had previously founded a museum in Madras, and gained the support of the Chief Commissioner of Mysore, L. B. Bowring.
