The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer is defined by its forty-meter-tall bell tower, which rises prominently above the skyline of the Christian Quarter. Constructed between eighteen ninety-three and eighteen ninety-eight, this Neo-Romanesque building sits directly adjacent to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. It occupies the site of the twelfth-century Crusader church of Saint Maria Latina, incorporating fragments of those medieval ruins into its own stone walls and cloister.
