The Mosquée Jamaa Chleuh, situated within the Old Medina, is recognized by the square minaret that rises above the surrounding dense cluster of buildings. Built in eighteen ninety-nine, the mosque is also known as the Fig Tree Mosque, a name derived from a tree that once grew beside the original, smaller prayer space.
