The Central Market is distinguished by a large, green entryway designed in the Neo-Mauresque style, which echoes the appearance of the great gates of imperial cities like Marrakesh and Fez. Completed in nineteen seventeen by architect Pierre Bousquet, the building sits on land that previously hosted the nineteen fifteen Casablanca Franco-Moroccan Fair. Its structure features a central courtyard and an octagonal cupola where vendors display fresh Atlantic seafood, including oysters shucked on the spot.
