Jewish Cemetery

The Jewish Cemetery, known as Beit Hahayim, occupies a hillside just outside the walls of the Tangier medina. You can identify the site by the long, continuous masonry wall that encloses the grounds, which sit between Rue Portugal and the Rue de la Plage. Behind the gate, the cemetery holds over one thousand graves, some marked by flat, shaped stones that date as far back as the sixteenth century.
