Tangier Grand Mosque

The Tangier Grand Mosque is recognizable by the square minaret that rises above the Medina, featuring geometric patterns and a surface of green and orange ceramic tiles. This site has hosted religious buildings since antiquity, beginning as a Roman temple and later becoming a fifth-century church. Following the Arab conquest of the region, the structure was converted into a mosque, though it returned to use as a cathedral during periods of Portuguese and English control.
