Kasbah Museum

The Kasbah Museum is housed within the Dar al-Makhzen, a former sultan’s palace with a distinctive white, crenellated facade that overlooks the medina and the Strait of Gibraltar. Occupying one of the highest points in Tangier, the palace sits on the site of the English Upper Castle, which was abandoned in sixteen eighty-four. Following that departure, Pasha Ahmed ben Ali al-Rifi constructed the current building, with an inscription inside dating its foundation to the years seventeen thirty-seven to seventeen thirty-eight.
