The Groothandelsgebouw is a massive, rectangular colossus defined by a repetitive grid of octagonal concrete columns that spans over two hundred metres in length. Completed in nineteen fifty-three, this reinforced concrete structure was designed by architects Hugh Maaskant and Willem van Tijen to serve as a consolidated hub for wholesalers who had lost their premises during the war. Its arrival marked a defining moment in the city's post-war reconstruction.
