Het Schielandshuis

The Schielandshuis is the only seventeenth-century building remaining in the center of Rotterdam. You can identify it by its symmetrical, palace-like facade of sandstone, which stands out against the surrounding modern architecture. Built between sixteen sixty-two and sixteen sixty-five, the structure originally served as the headquarters for the polder administrators responsible for managing the local dikes and water levels.
