Euromast

landmark

The Euromast rises above the surrounding trees as a slender concrete pillar, topped by a distinctive, asymmetrical observation deck that resembles a ship's crow’s nest. Architect Huig Maaskant designed this tower for the nineteen sixty Floriade, an international horticultural exhibition. He chose the name to honor Rotterdam’s identity as a port city, combining "Euro" to reflect its central role in European trade with "mast" to echo the silhouette of a ship anchored in the harbor.
