De Vlechten - Kalliopi Lemos

The Braid, or De Vlecht, stands six and a half meters high on the sculpture terrace along the Westersingel. It is an upright, detached braid of dark brown hair crafted from over fourteen thousand meters of woven steel wire. Created in twenty twenty by the Greek-British artist Kalliopi Lemos, the sculpture appears as if a giantess has cut off her hair and left it anchored to the street, glistening with a reddish metallic glow in the sunlight.
