The Long Thin Yellow Legs of Architecture - Coop Himmelb(l)au

monument

The Long Thin Yellow Legs of Architecture is an open-air construction of steel beams and plates, standing twelve meters tall on the corner of Vasteland and Scheepstimmermanslaan. Designed by the Vienna-based architectural duo Coop Himmelb(l)au, this deconstructivist sculpture has occupied this intersection since nineteen eighty-eight. It was originally commissioned for the city-wide event "The City as a Stage" and was intended to be placed near the historic café De Unie. Because the structure was too large for that site, it was moved here.
