Schouwburgplein

Schouwburgplein is recognizable by four tall, red hydraulic light masts that loom over the open plaza like oversized steel cranes. These kinetic sculptures nod to the machinery of the nearby port and were once interactive, allowing visitors to adjust their position with coins. Raised thirty-five centimeters above the street level, the twelve-thousand-two-hundred-fifty-square-meter floor functions as an urban stage. It is flanked by the De Doelen concert hall, the Rotterdamse Schouwburg theater, and a large cinema complex, positioning the square at the center of the city's entertainment district.
