Igrexa de Santa María Salomé

The Church of Santa María Salomé is set apart by a sturdy sixteenth-century stone portico that protects its original Romanesque doorway from the elements. This is the only church in Spain dedicated to Saint Salome, the mother of the apostles James the Great and John the Evangelist. Founded around eleven forty during the ministry of Archbishop Diego Gelmírez, the building reflects centuries of architectural change, ranging from its twelfth-century foundations to an eighteenth-century bell tower modeled after the nearby church of San Fiz de Solovio.
