Praza do Obradoiro

The Praza do Obradoiro is a vast, open expanse defined by four monumental buildings, each representing a pillar of the city: the Cathedral of Santiago, the Pazo de Raxoi, the Hostal dos Reis Católicos, and the Colexio de San Xerome. Its name, meaning workshop in Galician, recalls the eighteenth century when the square was filled with the sounds and dust of stonemasons carving the enormous granite blocks for the cathedral’s baroque facade.
