Pazo de Fonseca

The Pazo de Fonseca is a grey granite structure defined by a Renaissance facade decorated with carved statues of Saint James and the Virgin Mary. You can identify the building by the noble coat of arms of the Fonseca family featuring five prominent stars. This palace originated as the ancestral home of Archbishop Alonso de Fonseca the third, an influential sixteenth-century figure who acted as a patron of the arts and an early supporter of higher education in the city.
