The San Sebastián City Hall is a grand, warm-toned building set directly against the greenery of the Alderdi Eder gardens. Inaugurated on July first, eighteen eighty-seven, the structure features the elaborate, eclectic ornamentation typical of the Belle Époque, a period when the city earned the nickname little Paris. Architects Luis Aladrén and Adolfo Morales de los Ríos drew inspiration from the casino in Monte Carlo to create a space that would attract Europe's aristocracy and wealthy elites.
