Dona Katalina Zubia

The Santa Catalina Bridge, known locally as Dona Katalina Zubia, spans the lower Urumea River to connect the Askatasunaren Hiribidea and Mirakruz Street. This neoclassical structure features four flattened arches constructed from light-colored Mutriku stone and reddish limestone from Ereño. While the earliest records of a river crossing here date back to the fourteenth century, the structure took its current form in eighteen seventy under the direction of architect Antonio Cortazar.
