Kursaal

The Kursaal is defined by two monumental, translucent glass cubes that appear as though they have been washed ashore at the mouth of the Urumea River. Designed by architect Rafael Moneo and inaugurated in nineteen ninety-nine, these volumes were intended to break away from the city's classical, French-style architecture. They sit on a stone platform where the river meets the Cantabrian Sea, creating a sharp contrast with the surrounding urban landscape.
