Victoria Eugenia Theater

The Victoria Eugenia Theater is identifiable by its neo-plateresque sandstone facade, featuring a series of ornate Corinthian columns and four stone sculptures perched above them that represent opera, tragedy, comedy, and drama. Inaugurated in July nineteen twelve, the building was designed by architect Francisco de Urcola to mirror the sophisticated styles he observed in theaters across Paris and Vienna. It sits near the banks of the Urumea River, commissioned by the local development society to bring a grand cultural venue to San Sebastián.
