BearPark

The BärenPark is a sprawling, six-thousand-square-meter hillside enclosure that stretches down to the banks of the Aare River. You can identify the site by the steep, grassy slope that separates the historic, circular concrete pits of the past from the river below. Since two thousand and nine, this open landscape has served as the home for Bern’s resident Eurasian brown bears, replacing the cramped, inhumane pits that held the animals for generations.
