Kindlifresserbrunnen

The Kindlifresserbrunnen, or Child Eater Fountain, stands at the Kornhausplatz as a painted stone figure of an ogre in the act of devouring a naked child. He holds a sack filled with other children at his side, and a frieze at the fountain's base depicts armed bears marching to war with a drummer and a piper. Created by sculptor Hans Gieng in fifteen forty-five and fifteen forty-six, this fountain replaced an earlier wooden structure.
