Simsonbrunnen

The Simsonbrunnen is a mid-street fountain on Kramgasse identifiable by a brightly painted stone statue of the biblical figure Samson standing atop a tall, ornate column. He is depicted in Roman attire, using his bare hands to pry open the jaws of a lion. Sculptor Hans Gieng constructed this fountain in fifteen forty-four, modeling it after an existing monument in Solothurn. It has long been a fixture of the city, designated as a Swiss Cultural Property of National Significance.
