Pfeiferbrunnen

The Pfeiferbrunnen, or Bagpiper Fountain, is easily recognized by the vibrant, painted stone statue of a musician perched atop its central column. The figure depicts a bagpiper in colorful dress, mid-performance, accompanied by a golden goose and a small monkey playing a flageolet. Created by the Swiss Renaissance sculptor Hans Gieng between fifteen forty-five and fifteen forty-six, the fountain draws inspiration from a fifteen fourteen woodcut by Albrecht Dürer.
