Vennerbrunnen

The Vennerbrunnen, or Banner Carrier Fountain, stands on the Rathausplatz in front of the old city hall. You can identify it by the armored figure perched atop a Corinthian pillar, clutching a banner in his right hand. This statue, carved by Hans Gieng in fifteen forty-two, depicts a "Venner," a powerful medieval official responsible for both local peace and leading his guild’s soldiers into battle.
