Mühlenplatz

Mühlenplatz is defined by the limestone double fountain that stands at its edge, a landmark dating back to seventeen fifty-six. This square sits at the heart of the Mattequartier, a historic district tucked onto the riverbank below the main city of Bern. The name Mühlenplatz—or Mill Square—recalls the area's medieval past, when three artificial channels were cut here in thirteen sixty to divert water from the Aare river to power city-owned mills.
