Memory Garden

The Memory Garden in downtown Monterey is marked by the high adobe walls that seclude it from the surrounding streets. Designed in nineteen twenty-seven by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted Junior, the garden occupies a space that once hosted bull and bear fights during the nineteenth century. Today, the enclosure holds a fifteen-foot-diameter fountain at its center, surrounded by Southern Magnolia trees, climbing roses, and wisteria.
