Old Fisherman's Wharf is a wooden pier in downtown Monterey that reaches into the bay, recognizable by its cluster of weathered buildings and the frequent presence of sea lions resting on the nearby pilings. Originally constructed in eighteen seventy by the Pacific Coast Steamship Company, the pier served as a hub for passenger and freight shipping. By the early twentieth century, the city assumed ownership and expanded the structure to support a booming sardine industry, with warehouses and fish markets lining the boardwalk.
