San Carlos Beach

San Carlos Beach sits at the western end of Cannery Row, marked by its proximity to the stone-walled Coast Guard Pier. While the shore is open to the public, the beach takes its name from the San Carlos Canning Company that once occupied this exact stretch of sand during Monterey’s sardine boom in the early twentieth century. After the cannery burned down in nineteen fifty-six, the site was cleared and eventually transitioned into a park.
