Coast Guard Pier

The Coast Guard Pier is a seventeen-hundred-foot concrete breakwater that stretches out into the waters of Monterey Bay. Built in the nineteen thirties by the Army Corps of Engineers, this structure functions as a long, narrow jetty that protects the boats moored in the harbor. A thirty-inch-high cement wall runs along its length, creating a stark, industrial boundary between the paved walkway and the crashing waves of the bay.
