The Metro Theatre on Union Street opened on April twenty-third, nineteen twenty-four, as the Metropolitan Theatre. Built by Samuel H. Levin, it featured a unique stadium-style seating layout designed by the Reid Brothers, architects also responsible for the Fairmont Hotel. The building displays a transition in styles, having been constructed in Spanish Colonial Revival before undergoing a significant Art Deco remodel in nineteen forty-one by architects Otto A. Deichmann and Timothy Pflueger.
