Scoma’s Restaurant occupies the end of Pier Forty-Seven, distinguished by its position directly on the water, slightly tucked away from the main thoroughfare of Fisherman’s Wharf. What began in nineteen sixty-five as a tiny, six-stool coffee shop for local fishermen has since grown into one of the highest-grossing independent restaurants in the United States. Brothers Al and Joe Scoma originally bought the shop to provide a place where fishers could sell their daily catch directly, bypassing larger wholesalers.
