Grandview Park rises above the Sunset District as a rocky, windswept summit that locals often call Turtle Hill. The park is characterized by its steep, wooden stairs and thin, sandy soil that sits atop a hundred and forty million years of Franciscan chert. This deep, dark red rock formed long ago on the ancient sea floor, eventually rising to become the foundation for much of San Francisco itself.
