Murder of Robert Hillsborough

On June twenty-first, nineteen seventy-seven, Robert Hillsborough, a thirty-three-year-old gardener for the City of San Francisco, was fatally stabbed near the corner of Nineteenth and Lexington Streets. Hillsborough had stopped for a late-night meal at a burger joint on South Van Ness Avenue when a group of young men identified him as gay. After taunting him, the men followed Hillsborough and his friend, Jerry Taylor, back to the Mission District neighborhood where Hillsborough lived.
