Battery Slaughter

Battery Slaughter is one of four historic coastal defense gun batteries nestled into the hillside above Crissy Field. Constructed by the United States Army between eighteen ninety-nine and nineteen oh two, the battery was built to protect San Francisco Bay with three eight-inch guns mounted on disappearing carriages. These weapons were designed to retreat behind a concrete parapet after firing, shielding them from enemy view and return fire.
