Fort Point View Point

Fort Point is a masonry fortress built between eighteen fifty-three and eighteen sixty-one, distinguished by its position directly beneath the southern arch of the Golden Gate Bridge. Designed as the only Third System style fortification on the Pacific Coast, the structure was created by United States Army engineers to defend San Francisco Bay from potential naval attacks during the Gold Rush.
