This display contains a full-size cross-section of one of the two main cables that hold up the Golden Gate Bridge. The section measures thirty-six inches in diameter and reveals the composition of the suspension span. The cable consists of twenty-seven thousand, five hundred and seventy-two individual galvanized steel wires, each roughly the thickness of a pencil.
